  1. 01

    Your menu, sizes included

The item library export is recognised by its column names, and variations become sizes.

  2. 02

    Gift cards keep their codes

Each card comes across with its balance and expiry, and guests use the code they already have.

  3. 03

    Restaurant tools included

Bookings, a kitchen display and QR ordering at the table work from the same menu.

What comes with you

  • Your menu: categories, dishes, prices and sizes from the item library export.
  • Your gift cards: each balance and expiry, with the code guests already hold.
  • Your customers: names, phones and emails, with marketing consent only where the file shows it.

Moving over in an afternoon

How importing works

How it works

Take a cafe that runs on Square and wants to move its menu and unused gift cards to a restaurant POS.

  1. In Square, export your item library and your gift card list as CSV files. Open Bring your data in the BookNDish admin and choose the menu import.
  2. Upload the item library file. The columns Item Name, Variation Name, Categories and Price are recognised, and rows for the same dish become one dish with sizes.
  3. Read the preview, which lists new dishes, changed prices and rows that cannot be read, with a reason for each. Then start the import, which runs in the background.
  4. Repeat with the gift card file (columns GAN, Balance and Expiration Date) and, if you want, a customer list. Download the list of skipped rows, fix them and upload again.

What you need

  • CSV files exported from Square: the item library, and the gift card list if you have cards outstanding. Files can be up to 5 MB and 10,000 rows each.
  • An admin login that can edit the menu. Importing gift cards also needs permission to manage gift cards and a plan with gift cards.
  • A customer list needs a marketing consent column with a yes or no per person. The browser on a laptop is enough for the upload and the preview.

What it does not do

  • Only dishes, categories, sizes, descriptions and prices come across. Photos, modifiers, tax settings and stock counts are not read from the file.
  • Sales history, order history and payment history stay in Square. Square card readers and other hardware are not transferred.
  • Gift cards in another currency than your restaurant, expired cards and cards with no usable balance are skipped and listed. A dish that already has sizes here keeps them.
