    At the till or online

Sell a card at the till by cash or card and email it with a message, or let guests buy one on your pages and receive it by email.

  2. 02

    Every movement on record

Each card keeps its history. An adjustment or a void needs a reason, and the outstanding balance shows what you owe.

  3. 03

    Your rules

Choose the amounts on offer and whether cards expire. A group can let its restaurants accept each other’s cards.

How to start

What you do in the back office to switch it on.

  1. Set the amounts on offer and how long a card lasts.
  2. Connect Stripe and sell cards on your guest pages.
  3. Print the gift card poster.

How it works

Take a restaurant that sells a gift card at the counter for a birthday and another online to a guest who lives abroad.

  1. At the counter, staff enter the amount and the recipient, choose cash or card, and sell it. The code is shown once and can be emailed to the recipient with a message.
  2. Online, the buyer picks one of your amounts, pays through the checkout, and the card is created and emailed only after the payment arrives.
  3. The holder spends it at the register by typing or scanning the code, or enters the code at online checkout. The card pays what its balance covers and the rest is paid another way.
  4. Every sale, spend and adjustment is recorded on the card. A manager can see the balance still owed and void a card or correct it with a reason.

What you need

  • A plan that includes gift cards. Which plans include it is listed on this page.
  • Selling online needs a way to take card payments, either a connected Stripe account or Konnect where Stripe cannot charge your currency, and online sales switched on in the settings.
  • A cash sale at the counter goes into an open register, so the till needs to be open. Spending a card at the register uses the point of sale.

What it does not do

  • A card is worth one currency, the currency of the restaurant that sold it, and it can only be spent where that currency matches.
  • Cards are accepted by other restaurants only inside the same group, and only if both the issuing and the accepting restaurant allow it.
  • Expiry is off unless you set it. Check your local law before you set one, because some countries restrict expiry dates on gift cards.
