Restaurant food safety checklists and logs

Food safety, signed and filed

Food safety checklist software for restaurants: opening, closing and temperature checks your team signs on the floor, and a daily log you can print when the inspector calls.

    Checks that get done

A check can be a tick, a reading, a note or a photo. A checklist past its time shows as overdue, and a reading out of range is flagged to the managers.

  2. 02

    The log inspectors ask for

The daily log shows every checklist completed, who signed it and when. Download it as a spreadsheet or print it.

  3. 03

    Sensors and maintenance

Connect your own temperature sensors to alert whoever is on shift, and keep equipment, repairs and service dates in one place.

How to start

What you do in the back office to switch it on.

  1. Create a checklist: opening, closing or temperatures.
  2. Add each check and how it is answered.
  3. Staff start it on shift, then sign and save.

How it works

Take a restaurant that runs an opening checklist, two fridge temperature rounds and a closing checklist every day.

  1. The manager builds each checklist from items. An item is a tick, a number with a safe range such as 0 to 5 °C, a short written answer or a photo. A due time and the number of times a day are set.
  2. On the floor, a team member opens today’s checklists, answers each item and signs. The run is saved with their name and the time, and an overdue checklist is shown as overdue.
  3. If a reading falls outside its range, owners and managers are emailed straight away, so a warm fridge is dealt with before service.
  4. For an inspection, the manager opens the food safety log for the day. It lists every completed checklist, who signed it and each answer against its range, and it can be printed or downloaded as a CSV.

What you need

  • A phone, tablet or computer with a browser for staff on the floor, signed in with a team account. Managers need settings access to build checklists and read the log.
  • Checklists and the food safety log are not tied to a plan feature. Sensors and maintenance are switched on under operations tools, and they need a plan feature listed on this page.
  • Sensors must be able to send readings over HTTP in BookNDish’s format, directly or through a gateway. Photo answers must be image files up to 8 MB.

What it does not do

  • Readings typed on a checklist are taken as entered. Only a connected sensor measures anything itself, and the log records what was reported.
  • Sensors are supported for temperature, humidity and scale readings through BookNDish’s own HTTP format. There is no ready-made integration for named sensor brands.
  • The log is a record for your own use and for inspectors. It is not a food safety certification, and which records you must keep depends on your local rules.
